Cardano price hovers around its key support at $0.72 on Tuesday; a close below could trigger a correction. On-chain metrics support a bearish thesis as ADA daily active addresses and DEX trading volume are falling.

From a technical perspective, ADA is holding within a critical support zone between $0.68 and $0.74—a range traders are closely watching for confirmation of a price floor. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 51, reflecting balanced momentum: not overly overbought nor in accumulation territory.
Cardano price faced rejection around the daily resistance at $0.84 on May 13 and declined 10% in the next four days. This daily level coincides with the 50% Fibonacci retracement ( drawn from the March 3 high of $1.17 to the April 7 low of $0.51) at $0.84, making this a key resistance zone. However, ADA retested and found support around its 200-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at $0.71 on Sunday. At the time of writing on Tuesday, it trades slightly down at around $0.73.

In August 1971, President Richard Nixon announced 10% across-the-board tariffs on U.S. imports and ended the convertibility of Dollars into gold. Allies were not consulted in advance, even though the actions ended the multilateral Bretton Woods exchange rate system in place since World War II. The so-called “Nixon Shock” was followed by extensive negotiations over the next four months, culminating in the Smithsonian Agreement in December 1971, in which G10 nations agreed to revalue their currencies versus the Dollar in exchange for tariff relief. While the tariffs were ultimately short-lived, the events changed global trade flows and had long-lasting implications for financial markets (Exhibit 1).
California DFPI partners with state DOJ against crypto scams. On March 10, the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) announced that “through its nationally-recognized Crypto Scam Tracker and a new partnership with the California Department of Justice (DOJ), the state has shut down more than 26 different crypto scam websites and uncovered $4.6 million in consumer losses.” Additionally, “the DFPI has also identified seven new scam types based on more than 2,668 complaints submitted by consumers in California and from across the U.S. in 2024.” The scam types include scams related to bitcoin mining, gaming, jobs, giveaways, and investments.
The crypto asset class includes a wide range of projects with many different use cases. However, they all share the vision of borderless finance and decentralization. Investors already appreciate these attributes of Bitcoin, which is likely why it performed well during a turbulent month for traditional assets. However, many other crypto assets share these features to a degree and may also be partly immune to tariffs and trade conflict. In our view, persistent uncertainty about government policy, the risk of stagflation, and potentially sustained weakness in the U.S. Dollar will lead investors to seek out alternative sources of return and diversification. We expect the resulting shift in capital flows to continue to benefit Bitcoin and to increasingly support the broader crypto ecosystem.
CFTC withdraws staff advisory related to virtual currency derivative product listings. Also on March 28, the CFTC’s Division of Market Oversight (DMO) announced it was withdrawing Staff Advisory No. 18-14, which provided guidance and suggested greater burdens for listing virtual currency derivatives products. The DMO cited “additional staff experience” and “increasing market growth and maturity” as reasons for withdrawing the advisory.
California DFPI issues proposed regulations on DFAL. On April 4, the California DFPI issued proposed regulations to implement the state Digital Financial Assets Law (DFAL), which requires digital asset companies operating in the state to obtain a license, maintain records, and submit reports to the state. Among other things, the regulations exempt from the state money transmission act “any money transmission of legal tender occurring in, associated with, or related to the normal, typical, or customary performance of digital financial asset business activity.” Comments must be submitted by May 19.
